…Carnell Morgan capped a five-play, 65-yard drive when he fired a 31-yard scoring pass to Brand Green with 2:11 left in the first.

Arguably the most exciting play of the game occurred in the waning the moments of the third when Fairley’s Deon Hailey chased a kickoff that sailed over his head and ran it back 99-yards for a touchdown that gave the Bulldogs an 18-14 lead.

As his players filed out of the locker room one by one following a somewhat lengthy postgame talk Friday night, Fairley coach Rahnmann Slocum remained behind momentarily, trying hard to process the array of misfortunes his players endured against Sheffield.

“Everything you could think of that went wrong, went wrong,” Slocum said. “We’ve just got to find out who the true leaders are. We’ve just got to come together as a family and bond together and work out our problems.”

Running back Marcus Holliday and Fairley had top-ranked Whitehaven on the run in the first half but Delvin Lane and the Tigers grabbed a 29-12 win.

(1) Whitehaven 29, Fairley 12

Whitehaven football coach Rodney Saulsberry had said repeatedly all week that his players didn’t need any extra motivation for Friday’s game with Fairley, considering it was a neighborhood rivalry game.

However, when the Tigers retreated to the locker room apparently stunned by what had transpired in the opening half Friday night, Saulsberry had no choice but to remind his players of all the hoopla surrounding the game.
