Fairley steps up for win over Westwood

Posted in Results on October 8th, 2011 by Andy

Holliday runs for 2 TDs, 205 yards

By Pete Wickham

Fairley 23, Westwood 8

Fairley and its star running back, Marcus Holliday II, have been playing catch-up since a rough start to their season. Friday night, they took a huge step back toward respectability. Holliday ran for 205 yards and two first-half scores as the Bulldogs got the jump on Westwood and came away with a 23-8 victory at Freeman.

It was the fifth straight win for Fairley (6-2), which lost Holliday for the first month of the season with a broken elbow suffered early in the opener against Hamilton. He missed the next three games, including losses to neighborhood rivals Whitehaven and Mitchell, and Bulldogs coach Rahnmann Slocum said that put his team under a cloud for the next month.

“People in the neighborhood started thinking we were a bad team because we lost to Whitehaven, and now hopefully people realize what we have,” said Slocum, whose team snapped a six-game winning streak by the Longhorns (6-2).
